May 02, 2006 - KGEB Optimizes Operations With BroadView Software

Religious Broadcaster Upgrades with Integrated Traffic/Programming Package

TORONTO, ON and TULSA, OK - May 2, 2006 - KGEB-TV, a religious broadcaster affiliated with Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is entering its second decade on-air by upgrading to BroadView Software’s integrated traffic and programming package.

"With BroadView, we’re finally replacing an older DOS-based system that we have been using for too long," said Bill Lee, Director of Engineering for KGEB as well as the associated ORTV and Golden Eagle Broadcasting television operations. "It’s a definite improvement for us because of its ease of use and how it allows our staff to do their jobs quicker."

According to Lee, the original choices for traffic and programming systems were made based on the assumption that a system designed for radio would suffice. Over the years, staff developed numerous manual work-arounds to get it to carry out the needed functions properly. The DOS-based system finally reached its end of life recently when the software vendor announced that they would no longer support it. This began a dedicated effort to determine a proper upgrade. After the search process narrowed to three vendors, BroadView quickly won out in a hands-on comparison.

"BroadView gives us a transparent view into what’s going on. We can carry out traffic and programming tasks without worrying about how to get there, so the focus is on what we can do rather than how to do it," Lee said.

Hands-Down Improvement for Hands-On Use
For Christi Vanover, the group’s Traffic Manager, moving to BroadView opens up new horizons.

"This is a much more powerful and flexible system than we were using. It allows us to play with breaks and segments much more effectively so we can focus on making sure that what goes to air is our very best," said Vanover.

BroadView’s power has also yielded an important benefit for the small staff.

"Before, we could only operate week-to-week and so there was a constant rush. Now, I’m able to lay in programming elements weeks and months ahead of time so we don’t have to begin with a blank slate every week," Vanover said.
