AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (IBC 2014, Stand 4.A65) – September 12, 2014
BroadView Software Inc., an industry leader in information management solutions for today's multiplatform media environment, announced today another success for its OnDemand toolkit. Utilizing BroadView's groundbreaking technology, DLA, a leader in the development of entertainment products for multiplatform distribution, has delivered more than 10,000 packages of content per month for distribution across an array of platforms. The ability to produce such a large volume of content opens the possibility for business model innovation that unlocks the value of non-linear programming.
Since launching in 2004, DLA has led the evolution of broadcast from traditional linear programming to today's on line environment. Like other media production companies, DLA's core challenge is processing and packaging content in a way that is appropriate to the target audience. Addressing the entertainment needs of the varied Latin American audience is challenging with generic regional video streams. Emerging on-line platforms provide additional flexibility and focus, allowing viewers interested in Argentine content, for example, to find a different focus than those seeking Colombian programming.
"Because of the national and cultural variety of what we provide, we had to develop new approaches. The on-line environment is the proper medium, but achieving the volume of content creation needed would have been impractical not long ago. With BroadView’s solution and support as technology partner, we are able to achieve the necessary efficiencies to make this cost-effective," said Mónica Mancuso, DLA’s Vice President of Operations.
BV OnDemand: Enabling Emerging Business Models
DLA began working with BroadView in 2009 to seek practical ways to go beyond linear programming. According to Michael Atkin, BroadView Founding Partner and President, managing metadata is key.
"Given the number of countries and the vast amount of content, DLA needed to take a totally different approach from traditional linear methodologies. Our OnDemand toolset automates much of the work needed to prep content for cable and other distributors to send out to their customers," Atkin explained.
Atkin added that BroadView's flexible IT-based media management architecture puts the client first.
"Media companies are scrambling to find THE business model to carry them past the legacy linear programming model,” Atkin emphasized. “What DLA's success shows is that there isn't any magic formula. Instead, it's about seeing what
business model works in the particular environment and achieving efficiency and economy in workflow to take it from the possible to the practical."
